The large 590 liter (150 gallon) tank in the wet lab allows us to observe the behavior of crayfish in a semi-natural type situation. Mimicking a pool with a shallow and a deeper end, it houses a number of different minnows and crayfish. The crayfish can be recognized individually based on size, morphological characteristics and coloration.
The tank currently contains the following large crayfish:
Name | Weight/Sex | Identification |
Captain Hook | 25.3g Male | very light, right claw only |
Dr. Suess | 24.9g Male | dark green, both claws, left antenna short, dark rusty patch |
Gillian | 24.9g Female | small right claw, dark green cephalothorax, brown abdomen, right antenna shorter, inconspicuous rusty patches |
Buster | 26.8g Male | dark olive green, pink joints, rusty patches barely noticable, both claws, both claws the same size, both antennae, two dots of superglue on side of carapace |
