Setup

The large 590 liter (150 gallon) tank in the wet lab allows us to observe the behavior of crayfish in a semi-natural type situation. Mimicking a pool with a shallow and a deeper end, it houses a number of different minnows and crayfish. The crayfish can be recognized individually based on size, morphological characteristics and coloration.

The tank currently contains the following large crayfish:

Name Weight/Sex Identification
Captain Hook 25.3g Male very light, right claw only
Dr. Suess 24.9g Male dark green, both claws, left antenna short, dark rusty patch
Gillian 24.9g Female small right claw, dark green cephalothorax, brown abdomen, right antenna shorter, inconspicuous rusty patches
Buster 26.8g Male dark olive green, pink joints, rusty patches barely noticable, both claws, both claws the same size, both antennae, two dots of superglue on side of carapace
Edith 21.1g Female dark green
