Motivation: Inherent propensity of an individual to
exhibit a particular type of behavior.
- Intervening variable: description of a relationship
between two variables, body length (X), body width (Y), and body
depth (Z), knowing any of these gives you a lot of predictability
for the other two.
- Hypothetical construct: a process that can account
for intervening variables - body size
- Lorenz' Psycho-hydraulic model. Buildup of internal
pressure and control of its release, criticisms: Aggression
- Is Motivation as an "Intervening Variable"
and a "Hypothetical Construct" useful?
- Neurochemical mechanisms of Emotion and Motivation.
Examples: Amines and Neurological Disorders, Serotonin and feeding
in leeches; Serotonin and aggression in invertebrates; Serotonin
and aggression in vertebrates
Film
- Fighting behavior of lobsters and crayfish, Amine effects
